Jukyiyagi Restaurant (KNU area)

I went for dinner at a restaurant called Jukyiyagi. It's near to the KNU Hospital. Just go down the hill from the restaurant, towards the big street. It's about halfway down on the left side of the road.

This shop specialises in juk. Juk is a thick soup or porridge. Usually it's thick because it has a lot of rice in it, but not all juks are rice based. For example Pumpkin Juk (hobakjuk).

I had a ginseng juk. It's a soup made from ginseng and chicken mixed with thick rice porridge.

Norman had a tuna juk.

When you eat juk, you can eat it direct from the bowl, but many people like to put it into the little bowl (see in the bottom right corners) and eat it from there. It cools faster. Also, you can mix some of the side dishes into the porridge. e.g. the peppered octopus relish or the peppered fish bits, even the kimchi. There is also red pepper powder or salt to mix in. I like mine plain. I don't recommend you mix in the pickled radish or the white kimchi. Eat those separate.

This restaurant is a nice atmosphere. Nice decorations (the tables are each a glass display case with changing art inside). It's better looking than a regular diner style soup/noodle restaurant. The price is reasonable. It's not crowded usually. It is small though, so maybe at lunch time you should wait if many students or workers are there to eat lunch.
