Taegeungil Restaurant (Myeongdong)

Today I went to a very old restaurant in Myeongdong. It's name is Taegeungil. It was opened by a couple during the civil war and was popular with Korean and foreign soldiers. Today the same couple still run the restaurant (they are very old) with their daughters and daughter-in-law. It is located on Saemyeongdong street (near to the old disco and parking lot). Their specialty is Nakgibokeum. This is a sort of boiled octopus dish. The chefs dice the octopus and then put it in a steel pot with some other ingredients and spices (including of course, a lot of chili pepper powder).

Like at many Korean style restaurants, this is cooked at the customer's table. There is a gas stove. While it is cooking, there were many side dishes (Korean: banchan) to eat.

The decor is very very nice. Not the original furniture but it looks very traditional and rustic. I liked the heavy chairs made from tree trunks.

The owners are very friendly and the food is tasty. I recommend this place.
